Hold on to Your Dream

Sunset in Roatan, Honduras

Dreams don’t happen overnight.  My case in point.  I have had a manuscript for my children’s book for 15 years.  It has sat on the back burner, in the closet and in a drawer. There have been a few occasions where it has surfaced, come up for air or out of hibernation to let me know that the dream is still there. Although it was submerged and laying dormant, it was still there in my thoughts and mind’s eye. The only way this dream is moving forward now is because I did not let it go. Shout out and tribute to Langston Hughes:

“Harlem”

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up

Like a raisin in the sun?

Or fester like a sore

And then run?

Does it stink like rotten meat?

Or crust and sugar over

Like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags

Like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

Dreams may get deferred for many reasons. Life happens. Obstacles get in the way. Priorities change.  It is up to you to determine what happens to your dream. Send your dream out into the Universe. Take time to pause and allow the spirit of God to hear your dream. And know that there is no time limit on a dream. Hold fast and dream on.
